Blue Sapphire Exporters Sri Lanka
Blue Sapphire stone have the highest value and are rarest of all blue colored gemstones. They are a highly desirable gemstone due to their beautiful royal blue color, hardness (second only to diamonds), durability, and luster (sparkle from light performance within the gemstone). The gem industry uses the term sapphire to refer to the mineral Corundum's blue variety. However, the term Sapphire encompasses all other gem varieties and colors of Corundum as well, except Ruby which is the red variety of Corundum, which has its own name. Sapphire corundum made in a laboratory is a synthetically-produced crystal whose hardness is second only after diamond on the Mohs Scale, making it extremely strong. Durability matters because gems are easily chipped. It typically grows in cylindrical sticks called boules, and requires a slow, expensive and energy-intensive production process. Color is the most important attribute of a sapphire. The closer a sapphire is pure blue the better, but saturation is also important. Most gems are grayish. The best sapphires have a vivid saturation (pure blue royal). Another important factor is the tone. Dark sapphires are much in the market but they never reach very high values. Padparadschas, which are orange-pink in color, are also very valuable. The Color Changing Sapphire is an exotic sapphire type that changes color depending on the lighting. The color-changing Sapphire appears violet in artificial lighting, while it turns blue under natural light. Yellow and Pink Sapphire are also very popular and can be seen on jewelry. The price of Sapphires can vary depending on its quality. The price of some Sapphires ranges from $25 per carat to over $11,000 per carat. The most expensive Sapphire sold to date cost $135,000 a carat. The quality of the sapphire determines its price, so a large but low-quality stone would cost less than a smaller but high-quality stone. Blue sapphires may have inclusions in them, but have generally better clarity than red rubies. Inclusions come in many different types. As an example, the mineral needles can be long and thin. They can have feathers, white clouds or other inclusions that can give the sapphire an opaque appearance. Rarely do you find sapphires in blue with a very high level of clarity. This makes them extremely valuable. Rarity increases the price. The most highly prized sapphires come from Kashmir. These precious stones are only mined in the Himalayan mountaintops for a few short months each year. These stones have beautiful colors, but the silk that covers them is what really sets them apart. This results in a stone with a velvety appearance. It also creates an ethereal glow which reduces extinction. This effect can only be seen in the Burmese ruby.
What Makes Sapphires Expensive
Sapphires are available in a wide range of colors and sizes, the price ranges starting from a few dollars for heavily included midnight blues. The most expensive colours are the deeply saturated colors, intense pinks and the padparadscha. The large size of blue sapphires is another reason why they have the highest price. Pink or padparadscha stones can only be priced in the same range if they are over 100 carats. However, it is rare to find such stones with excellent color and clarity. Color and size or weight are the most important factors in determining the price of a sapphire. Beyond the color, clarity, and cut details need to be assessed. clarity will always be possible to re-cut a sapphire stone, so it is more important. A stone with a quality of between 1 and 2 carats might cost $800 to $1200. Quality stones of 2 to 3-carat size would cost approximately double as much per carat. So, that would be between $1600 and $2000. For larger or smaller stones, however, prices can be extrapolated to some extent but, there is no linear or exponential formula to follow and prices change with time.
Price Synthetic vs. natural
It is impossible to tell the difference between synthetic and natural gemstones. This is a sign of a high-quality product. Synthetic gemstones are often cheaper than natural gemstones, despite their superior appearance. However, sapphire is a gemstone of very high quality. It's also incredibly rare. Therefore, this makes it an expensive one. Getting a well-cut, high-quality carat sapphire would cost more than other gemstones since a quality sapphire is made to the very best value and is a very rare gemstone which makes the demand high and increases the price.
